About me

My name is Danica Lucker and I am a freelance writer living in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I have been in Colorado for almost seven years.  Before that I lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for 11 years.

I am originally from the Midwest and have a journalism degree from Indiana University.

My professional experience includes:

  • technical writer at Hewlett-Packard and contractor technical editor at Los Alamos National Laboratory
  • development researcher for The Santa Fe Opera
  • editorial intern, Outside magazine
  • assistant editor, The Los Alamos Monitor
  • associate editor, Cowboys & Indians magazine
  • reporter, The Santa Fe New Mexican
  • presentation editor, The Rocky Mountain News

My writing also has appeared in:

  • The Chicago Tribune
  • The Denver Post
  • Local Color magazine
  • New Mexico Magazine
  • Women's Sports & Fitness
  • Runner's World
  • Pacifica and National Public Radio

When I'm not working I enjoy spending time with my family. I am married and the mother of two wonderful children. I'm an avid runner, a running coach, and I recently qualified for the Boston Marathon, which I will run in April 2011.

I speak Serbo-Croatian and German, and I enjoy reading, cooking, hiking and snowboarding.

"In more than three years freelancing for Local Color magazine in Brighton, Danica Lucker has become a go-to writer. Readers and sources comment every month about the wonderful personality profiles she has written in our monthly "Neighbors" feature. And when she takes on additional news assignments she writes concise, fair and accurate and readable accounts regardless of the topic she tackles."
